CMAK Strengthens Cooperation in Construction Management with the Saudi Contractors Authority (SCA)

On September 14, CMAK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Saudi Contractors Authority (SCA), Saudi Arabia's specialized body for the construction sector, for mutual cooperation in construction management (CM) and the construction industry.

The purpose of the MOU is for the two organizations to raise the competitiveness and professionalism of the construction industry and to cooperate in advancing construction management in both countries.

Established in 2015, the SCA is the body representing Saudi Arabia's construction and contracting sector. Its work includes the registration and classification of contractors, capacity building for the construction industry, education and training, the provision of construction market information, and support for cooperation among companies. In particular, it supports network building and the matching of business opportunities among project owners, construction companies, suppliers, and foreign companies in the Saudi construction market.

Under the agreement, the two organizations plan to pursue:
• Capacity building, training, and professional certification programs in construction management
• A joint task force and cooperation on guidelines and advisories
• Events, joint workshops, and seminars
• Exchange of expertise, best practices, research, statistics, and innovations related to construction management and the construction industry

With this agreement, CMAK intends to share with Saudi Arabia the construction management systems, practical experience, professional training, and international cooperation network it has built up in Korea, and to contribute to strengthening the professional capacity of the Saudi construction industry and the development of CM there.

CMAK also plans to pursue, in stages, cooperative projects that connect the SCA's network of local construction companies and projects with CMAK's network of Korean CM firms and experts, supporting Korean CM firms in entering the Saudi construction market and building local partnerships.

The two organizations plan to expand the scope of cooperation going forward to include joint education and workforce development, identification of CM pilot projects, support for local market entry, exchange on CM systems and evaluation frameworks, contract and claims management, and digital construction management such as BIM and PMIS.
